Karen Rexrode
Karen
as a youth was interested in amphibians, bugs, plants and photography.
Her father was a photographer who helped her purchase her first SLR
camera, which was always loaded with slide film. College was sporadic,
all art classes, painting, drawing and design. During college, Karen
found work at a garden center; seven years later, she started her
own nursery, Windy Hill Plant Farm. The photography seed started to
grow, along with her camera collection. In 2000 she joined the Manassas-Warrenton
Camera Club, which was a great launching pad for her interest in photography.
Now her nursery days are over, as Windy Hill closed in September of
2005; but she continues to take pictures of amphibians, bugs and flowers.
Statement
Far from predictable,
shoot low, shoot high, blur it, sandwich it, transfer it. I am always
asking myself, how many ways can this subject be seen? My mentors
have been Andre Gallant of New Brunswick, Canada and Linda Carlson
of Manassas, Virginia, fellow ArtBeat member. I aspire always to be
equally creative.
